Welcome to Pints & Pelvic Floors

Joy Noble • July 23, 2020

Alright friends, let’s talk about the fun stuff …. SEX education! Remember that class back in high school? Maybe you got separated by ‘girls’ and ‘boys’ ( what a terrible concept! ) and if you grew up in the South like I did, it was abstinence-only education. [Because that’s effective *she says sarcastically*]   Putting aside unwanted pregnancy (seemingly the only goal of sex-ed), we must consider the importance of learning about sexually transmitted infections, obtaining consent, sexual pleasure, differences in sexual orientation and gender expressions, our normal body changes and how to identify abnormal changes, and so much more. I could literally go on and on about the information I get to educate patients on daily. I could tell you all about the common misconceptions we have about our bodies when it comes to the anatomy and function of our pelvic floors  (i.e.

"leaking pee after having a baby is normal" – its not!

"sex hurts for some people" – not normal!

"starting my urine stream takes a while" – it shouldn’t!

and so on...

If I went into all of it here that would totally take away the whole reason I am writing this post. With so many common misconceptions and a plethora of professions who can help educate us, let’s grab a pint (or glass of wine, a soda, some water, truly whatever makes your little heart happy) and join me for Pints & Pelvic Floors .

The goal of this gathering is to bring a new topic to the table to discuss each month. I will ask for your input on topics you want to know more about as well as people and professions you want to hear more from. We will start this thing virtually (thanks COVID) but will hopefully find a home bar or brewery to host each time (or possibly it will be rotating – who knows!). I will lead the conversation with evidence-based information supported by professionals that address physical, mental, and social health . I would love for this to be interactive and will open it up for Q&A at the end, but questions will be encouraged throughout. Keep in mind there are no stupid questions and chances are if you are thinking it someone else probably is too. You can always email questions ahead of time if you wish to remain anonymous. This is to be a safe space for all gender expressions, sexual identities, races, education levels, etc. So don’t be an asshole – you will be banned from participating

Logistics: I will announce the topic ahead of time to allow you to send in your questions. We will meet via Facebook Live at 8pm EST for approximately an hour. The more questions you ask the more we will discuss, we will try to cap it at 2 hours.

Join the Facebook group  for updates, to submit questions, to vote on dates and times, and other discussions, as necessary. If you are a professional and would like to host a chat or join in on a topic please reach out to me at joy@pelvicpride.com with the subject line Pints & Pelvic Floors.

UPDATE 1/21/2024: Pints & Pelvic Floors has pivoted its format to a podcast (check it out here). You can still join the Facebook page to ask questions or email me with questions or episode ideas.

Welcome to Pints & Pelvic Floors: The Podcast. In Episode 60, I sat down with Emily Souder, a writer, licensed clinical social worker, and an awesome human! Emily and I first connected over a desire to chat about how we help people and I quickly knew I needed to invite her on the podcast to share more about her work.

Welcome to Pints & Pelvic Floors: The Podcast. In Episode 58, I reviewed Day 1 of the PelviCon speakers. It was hard to avoid all of the nerdy pelvic therapy things but I tried to keep it as relevant to patients as possible and include the big takeaways & clinical pearls from each person. The speakers are always amazing and bring their own flair and this year did not disappoint!
