Joy Noble • January 9, 2024

Welcome to Pints & Pelvic Floors: The Podcast. In Episode 24, we discuss how to define constipation, including a way you wouldn’t expect and then dive into how you can keep things moving along.

Pints & Pelvic Floors: The Podcast - Episode 18: Soluble vs. Insoluble Fiber Types

Episode 24 Recap:

  • Constipation is defined by having a BM less than 3x per week, difficulty voiding stool AND… not feeling completely empty after a bowel movement.
  • Take a look at the Bristol Stool Chart to see how your stool measures up - keep in mind we are aiming for #4 and #5 poops!
  • There are a variety of treatment options for constipation including:
  • Medications & supplements like laxatives, fiber, and magnesium
  • Enemas & suppositories
  • Dietary fiber (check out Episode 18 about soluble vs insoluble fiber)
  • Movement
  • Water (it’s not the complete answer but it’s a piece of the puzzle!)
  • Abdominal massage (ILU massage)
  • Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy: We will assess your muscles for tightness, coordination of pelvic floor muscle contraction AND relaxation, and ensure the brain and pelvic floor are communicating as they should be!
